Internship at a publishing house

Hi everybody,

So it’s been a while since I posted something and of course there is a reason for that. For my school I needed to do an internship and I decided to do mine at a publishing house: Storm Publishers. I know it is an unfamiliar company for the international reader. First let me explain to you what the mission is of Storm Publishers:

Storm Publishers is a publishing house that has their focus on the Dutch writers. It is hard for a writer in the Netherlands to get their book published. Almost all the books are translated work from the US and UK. Storm gives writers in the Netherlands a chance to get their book published.

What was my job description?

I got to read a lot of manuscripts! Next to reading those manuscripts I got to revise and edit them. Besides that everything evolves around books, books and what a surprise books. So my job description evolves around making a book and the marketing of that book. Who doesn’t want that? When you do your internship at a publishing house you get a look up close of how it works at a publishing house. What does a publisher do, how they criticize manuscripts, what are the best marketing options etc. Next to reading manuscripts, I organized events and got to design promotion materials. And believe me it isn’t work if you really have a passion for books.

If you want to work at a publishing house or you want to work with books I would certainly recommend an internship at a publishing house. You get to learn a lot and you already start building your network.

If you have questions or you want to know more, please feel free to ask me! It was a lovely time and I learned a lot. Now it is time for the next phase in my life; minor International Trade Publishing Books & More.

I will try my best to write more reviews and nice stuff on my blog from now on :).

P.S. I’am the one on the right

Eleanor’s wardrobe concept

So I looked around on the internet and I found different ideas about how Eleanor’s wardrobe looks like. Today I’am going to show you guys how I see Eleanor’s wardrobe, take a look.

This is how I pictured the clothing of Eleanor. When I saw Eleanor in my head while I was reading E&P, I always pictured her with a lot accessories: tie,s, jewelry, ribbons etc.

What do you guys think about it? Do you think Eleanor would wear this or not?

Over a month ago I was chosen by a publisher for their YA-promoteam. There were over 200 people who wanted to be in this team and they choose me! So of course when I saw my name on the list I was very happy and couldn’t believe it. Today was the first time all the ambassadors came together. We had lunch and a photoshoot, so how amazing is that!

What does a promoteam exactly?

A promoteam means you promote books for a publisher (duhh). Yes you get free books and go to many book events! Of course you need to do stuff back like reviewing, promoting their books in every way you can, help brainstorming for new awesome ideas and recommend new books they can publish. But that’s not the only thing, you build connections in the publishers world and meet new people who love books.

It’s not the first time I do this, and I already met a of lot people, all bookworms like me. That’s so amazing, people who share your passion. So for all the readers out there, write to publishers and ask if you can promote their books! You wont regret it.

Today was the first time I saw the publishing office. It was nice, we had lunch and a photoshoot like I said before. I will post the pictures on my blog when I have them. It was a little bit cold because the pictures were taken in the garage, but it was well worth it.
