Two misfits.
One extraordinary love.

Eleanor… Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough…Eleanor.

Park… He knows she’ll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There’s a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises…Park.

Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.

My review:

Eleanor is a poor girl with weird clothes, to much weight and red hair. Her home situation is bad and her stepfather hates her. Park is a half-Korean alternative boy with a loving home and a passion for comic books and good music. They are two misfits teenagers who fall in love.

When Eleanor first steps in the bus she immediately became under the attention of the bullies. No one likes her and no one wants to sit next to her. She ends up next to Park, and neither of them are happy about it. But it doesn’t take long before Park shares his comic books, his music and eventually his hand with Eleanor.

Just like every other book they have to overcome obstacles. Eleanor has it very hard at home, especially after a year away. She sleeps in a small room with all of her siblings and has a hard time with her alcoholic and abusive stepfather. Next to that she gets bullied a lot at school and everyone calls her big red. Wonderful enough Park falls in love with her. Although Eleanor will not admit it at first, but she likes Park to.

Park also has troubles at home despite he’s from a good environment. He has the feeling he can’t meets his fathers expectations. Sometimes his dad completely ignores him. Because of that he finds alternatives ways to scream for attention. At one point he goes to school with eyeliner around his eyes. At the end my opinion is that Eleanor & Park are perfect for each other. They fit like no one else! Their love story is just amazing.

Eleanor & Park are very special characters and it doesn’t take long before you sympathize with them. They are very unique with special personalities. I haven’t met a book person like Eleanor and Park before. And that’s what makes this story different from other stories.

Despite everything they can’t be with each other. That’s what makes this story sad… And you may have heard stories about the ending, but all I can say is that you need to read it for yourself. To my opinion the ending was good, but I want to know how the story continues! So I hope that Rainbow one day decides she is going to write a sequel.

Like John Green Said:
“Eleanor & Park reminded me not just what it’s like to be young
and in love with a girl, but also what it’s like to be young and in love with a book.”
